Nadya Huculak was born on April 30th, 1909 in the village of Luhove, Ternopilska Oblast, Ukraine. In 1927 Nadya's sister immigrated to Canada and Nadya went to Lviv to apprentice with a tailor. In 1939 Nadya's sister Milya, who was living in Winnipeg, sent for her. In Winnipeg Nadya found employment in a tailor shop.

In the early forties Nadya started attending functions at the Ukrainian Labour Temple, where she met Mykola Huculak. The two married in 1944, and in 1945 they moved to Vancouver where they opened a shoe store. Later they closed the store and bought an apartment building. Nadya's health began to fail but nevertheless she took an active part in the AUUC, taking part in the mixed choir as well as the Russian choir.
