Katherine Hoshowsky, nee Krawczyk, was born in the Horodok region of Ukraine in 1902. She came to Canada in 1909 and first settled in Dysart, Saskatchewan. She came to Vancouver in 1925 where she farmed, did housekeeping, and clerked in the family grocery store.
Kate began participating in the activities of the Ukrainian Labour Farmer Temple Association in 1925. She joined the ULFTA so she could socialize and converse in Ukrainian, as well as pursue and develop her interest in Ukrainian tradition and upkeep her culture, particularly through music. She enjoyed being an active member of Vancouver's Ukrainian community.
