Biographical Text
Donn Mainer, nee Moronyk, was born in Alberta, Canada. Donn, his father Michael Moronyk, his mother Uliana Tymofichiek and his two borthers arrived in Canada from Ukraine via the port of Halifax in 1896 and 1898. They settled in Edmonton, then Andrew, Egg Lake, and the Smoky Lake region of Alberta as farmers. Donn also operated a river ferry in Northern Alberta. He came to Vancouver in 1939 where he worked for Air Canada and CP Air as a mechanic.
In Alberta, Donn joined the ULFTA in 1928. He joined the Vancouver Branch of the organization in 1939 where he enjoyed the friendships, the language, and the Ukrainian cultural groups. He danced in the 1940's for the army at the Hotel Vancouver during World War II.
