Biographical Text
Karl Zucker was born in Vizhnetsi in the Bukovina region of Austria (now Ukraine). He came to Canada in 1929, where he stayed with his brother in Toronto. Karl became an apprentice jeweller and worked with his brother for many years. He moved to Vancouver in 1939 and opened his own jewelry stores.
Karl joined the AUUC in Vancouver in 1939 after learning about the Association from socialist friends. He was interested in the social and political discussions that he engaged in with many of the people at the Hall. He was also interested in Ukrainian culture and sang in the choir for many years. Karl was known for his work as a jeweller, and he often donated jewelry that he crafted himself to the Hall's bazaar raffles.
