Katerina Chernetska, nee Onysko, was born on August 13th, 1902 in the village of Zavallya, Stanislavkaya Oblast in Ukraine. In 1923 she married Andrew Lacusta and in 1928 Andrew left for Canada. He was unable to bring Katerina to Canada until 1934. They lived in Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster, and during their time in New Westminster they both became members of the AUUC and WBA.
For many years Kateryna was secretary of the New Westminster branch of the WBA and served as chairman of the District Committee of the WBA in BC. She served as secretary of the Women's Branch of the AUUC in Vancouver and ran many times as a candidate in the "Zirka" contests held during the AUUC's organizational campaigns. She also ran for "hospodynya" during bazaars. Katerina loved to sing and sang in the AUUC Vancouver's mixed choir. In 1981 Katerina became ill and landed in the hospital, where she stayed until her death on October 9th, 1982.
